These hats were worn and designed by fisherman and their families from the Fair Isles. They were mostly used as a bartering tool to get goods they had no access to on the island. Many of the knitters and knitted keps were gone to all corners of the earth. Anne Sinclair started revising the design before Christmas 2010, her along with 5-22 knitters with all ranges of knitting experience, got together to knit Fair Isle Fisherman’s Keps.
There are traditional colors and pattern designs that one can use to knit a kep, but if you like you can make the kep all your very own. This Kep is just that, tradition in the size and shape but unique in colors and patterning. One size will fit most and the upturned band covers a ribbed band that gives a second layer to keep wind from creeping around your ears.
My hats are one size fits most and are hand knit from wool and some wool/nylon blends. I hope you have a good time looking around and find one that fits you personality. You make contact me to see if there are colors available that might suit your taste better.
All my work is done in a smoke-free but dog-friendly home. While this particular dog is not prone to playing with yarn, his hair (as any pet owner knows) does occasionally stray.
